Do car rental companies come with insurance for luggage as well?

Car rental companies typically do not provide insurance specifically for luggage. The insurance coverage offered by car rental companies usually focuses on the vehicle itself and may include options like Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) to cover damage or theft of the rental car.

While the rental car insurance may provide some coverage for personal belongings left inside the vehicle, it is often limited and subject to certain conditions. Coverage for personal belongings is typically secondary to your own personal insurance policies, such as homeowner’s or renter’s insurance.

To protect your luggage and personal belongings, it’s generally recommended to have separate travel insurance or check if your existing insurance policies (such as homeowner’s or renter’s insurance) offer coverage for personal belongings while traveling. Travel insurance can provide coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged luggage during your trip.

Before renting a car, it’s a good idea to review the insurance coverage options offered by the rental company and consider additional travel insurance options to ensure adequate protection for your luggage and personal belongings. It’s also advisable to read and understand the terms and conditions of the insurance policies to know the extent of coverage and any exclusions or deductibles that may apply.
